B-5018 Design-Build Project, Hertford County
This was an NCDOT design-build project to replace Bridge No. 12 over Ahoskie Creek and Bridge No. 25 over the Ahoskie Creek overflow on US 13/NC 12. Wetherill Engineering Inc. (WEI) was the lead designer for the Sanford Contractor Team. WEI’s in-house design scope of services included 0.45 miles of roadway design, two bridges (165 and 110 foot cored slab bridges), hydraulic design, erosion and sedimentation control design, permit drawings, traffic control design, pavement marking design, utility coordination, public involvement, contract documents, special provisions and special details. A permanent 30 foot long sheet pile wall was designed in front of the bridge end bents, with 10 feet exposed and 20 feet embedded.
Erosion and sedimentation control design plans were also prepared to insure that sediment was contained on site. The plans were prepared in accordance with the most recent version of the NCDENR-Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual.
WEI utilized subconsultants to provide supplemental location surveys, SUE, geotechnical investigations, foundation designs, environmental screening/permits, and right of way acquisition. The project included American Reinvestment Recovery Act funds, requiring additional documentation on jobs created and/or sustained. The project was completed ahead of schedule.
