Structural Projects
Pine Knoll Shores
Pine Knoll Shores, NC Design plans and construction inspection for replacement of the bridge over McNiel’s Creek. The project involved a 120 foot-long bridge, reconstruction of the roadway approaches on Oak-leaf Drive and addition of a center turn lane on NC 58. Because of it’s location in an environmentally-sensitive area, removal of the bridge had to be accomplished without blasting.
Henry Link Bridge Replacement Lexington, NC WEI reviewed the NCDOT’s right of way plans and determined that rather than an on-site detour with a 3-barrel culvert, that the approach road could be constructed in stages; thereby maintaining traffic during construction. Using the existing road for part of the proposed road embankment resulted in considerable financial savings to the city.
5th Avenue Street Bridge Winston-Salem, NC Feasibility study, design and construction inspection for a 96-foot long, single span bridge over the NCDOT Rail Division right of way. The project involved utility relocations and adjustments, and maintaining the existing rail corridor for future rail service.
Bridge 133 Wake Forest, NC Design for a new alignment and structure on Stadium Drive for this North Carolina Moving Ahead project. The design included erosion control, a 3-span bridge, approximately 1,000 feet of roadway alignment and sewer relocation.
House Creek Greenway Raleigh, NC Currently designing a 3-mile section of greenway which will begin at Crabtree Valley Trial and end at the eastern end of the pedestrian bridge over the I-440 Beltline and Meredith College. Design constraints include a highly variable grade, numerous stream crossings, and the need to safely cross three roads.
Crabtree Pedestrian Bridge Raleigh, NC WEI worked with the contractor to create a thin durable slab that could be rapidly placed on timbers. The slabs are designed to carry a 7,500 pound ambulance load.
North Carolina’s Longest Single Span Bridge Greensboro, NC Designs for two almost identical bridges over West Friendly Avenue on Greensboro’s new western loop. To improve traffic flow along West Friendly Avenue, our engineers designed a 310 foot, single-span bridge to eliminate the need for any additional traffic lights.
Cameron Village Parking Deck Raleigh, NC Parking layout and structural engineering design for replacement of the Library Parking Deck
Holly Springs Water Tank Holly Springs, NC Foundation design for an elevated 1 million gallon water tank
Carrboro Retaining Wall Carrboro, NC 18’ high cantilever cast in-place concrete retaining wall, installed on a failing slope in close proximity to an electrical tower and municipal roadway
Building Relocations Belhaven & Raleigh, NC Structural evaluation, engineering report & foundation design for the elevation & transport of several homes
RTP Spillway Research Triangle Park, NC Reinforced concrete inlet structure 34’ long, 32’ wide and 22’ tall, connected to a precast concrete culvert submerged in the lake that carried the overflow through an earth dam
Raydome Shipping Container Wilmington, NC Design of a 200’ long by 20’ wide frame metal shipping container for transporting military equipment. Complex transportation loading and boundary conditions were required to be met.
Village Lakes Spillway Wake County, NC Design & construction inspection of a reinforced concrete channel spillway for lower dam repair, measuring 70’ by 3’’ by 21’.
Alltell Cell Towers Several cell tower foundation platforms designed to withstand 120mph wind loading.
Metal Buildings Foundation design for numerous metal buildings including the retrofit of a failing foundation for a 4,000 s.f. recycling center for Waste Industries.
